Today we did a brief review over some of what we’ve covered so far in the class. Then we looked at examples of the different kinds of media that people use to get the news, some of the sites we visited were:

We also examined how Twitter can be used as a news source.

Once that was wrapped up we moved on to learning about the different kinds of news leads (the first paragraph of a news story). This was located in the textbook on pages 46 and 47.

For Monday there’s an extra credit opportunity if you choose to write a scene setting lead that describes a scene that you wtinessed over the weekend. An example would be:

The blue chaired student desks sit empty and the Smartboard is off in room 217 at Washington High School. There is a stack of dictionaries, a stack of textbooks, numerous stacks of papers and manilla folders by the teacher’s desk. The air conditioner keeps the room a cool 72 degrees and Mr. Phillips sits at his yellow office chair updating the class website during his prep hour.

Anything that describes the where using the writing method of “show don’t tell” can be a scene setting lead.

Finally, don’t forget that your two paragraph write up over your partner interview is also due on Monday.

Have a great weekend!
