Intro to journalism 9/7

Today we started discussing news writing. There were several pages in the Harrower textbook that we looked at to help understand how to find news and how to write news. If you want those page numbers again or want to borrow a Harrower textbook to review please see Mr. Phillips.

We started off the day going over this handout on journalism writing basics. On the back of that handout was your assignment for this mini-unit, which is for you to come up with and write a news story about something going on at Wash. Please direct any questions about the assignment to Mr. Phillips.

Then I assigned this developing news assignment and the information from day one of the story.  If you have any questions on this assignment please see Mr. Phillips.

Finally we talked briefly about inverted pyramid style writing. Make sure to put the most important information in your story in the first three paragraphs and then move on to more detailed writing from there. All of the stories that we’re writing this week should be written using the inverted pyramid style.
