A brief summary of what happened daily in Mr. Phillips's classes

Intro to journalism 11/30

Today I finished up talking about how to properly interview someone, and then explained what you should cover when you interview a subject. The first and second question should always be “what’s your name” followed by “how do you spell it?” Once that is completed you need to phrase the questions that will give you the answers to the six Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.)

I asked that everyone come up with ten questions to go into the interview with, and then be ready to form follow-up questions as well. This was all part of the interview assignment, which will be due tomorrow. (Remember that in journalism paragraphs are going to be shorter than what you’re used to writing in your English classes, so they will only be 3-5 sentences each.)

Once everyone was finished interviewing we read about different types of successful leads from Tim Harrower’s book “Inside Reporting”, which is the textbook we’ll refer to throughout the trimester.

If you have any questions on anything that we went over in class today please feel free to stop by and ask me, I’d be happy to explain anything we cover in class in a different way to make sure that you understand.
