A brief summary of what happened daily in Mr. Phillips's classes

Today we spent the first half of class reading and critiquing three articles from The Surveyor. Then during the last part of class I went over some of the things I saw continuously popping up on your developing news assignments.

  • Phillips age is not relevant to the story. That’s one fact that you could weed out when writing it as news.
  • Make sure to clarify that they are police officers, not just officers.
  • If you include Wash’s full address make sure that you let the readers know that you are talking about the high school.
  • Always include the names of people you are quoting. Several people left off Ernie Kernerski’s name.
  • Make sure you’re spelling names properly!

I collected the critiques and developing news day two at the end of the hour. Tomorrow I will hand out day three and a study guide for the movie we’re going to watch. I will also go over the rubric that I’ll be using when grading your news story, which is due on Wednesday at the beginning of class.
