Today we read some articles from the NY Times that were printed during the Scottsboro trials. I wanted each person to read at least one article and answer the following questions:

1. Summarize the article in a minimum of five sentences.

2. How did this article add to or change your perception or view of the Scottsboro case?

3. How do you think this article would have looked if it were running in an Alabama newspaper instead of the NY Times?

I will look through those tomorrow, so make sure to bring your written down answers to class.

In addition to that assignment we discussed the difference between a primary and secondary source. A primary source is someone who was actually there and witnessed the events- a newspaper account is a primary document because reporters are actually there. A secondary account is someone who has familiarized themselves with the event and tells it to people secondhand. Historians are secondary sources.

Reminder: Complete your I Have A Plan Iowa and turn the summary sheets into Mr. Phillips.
