Today I handed out the final assignment sheet to you:

Final Project- Newspaper page

Directions: Your final project for this class will combine everything you’ve learned up until now:

  • Act as a vigilant editor, making sure your pages are ethically and legally solid.
  • Report and write on new stories and information to go on your page.
  • Use your newly discovered page design skills to take the first steps towards becoming the next Jon Wile.

You will begin working in the lab today and will have 10 days to complete a newspaper page. Here are the rules:

  • You must have at least three stories on your page.
  • All stories must be original, written either by you or someone else in the class.
  • All art/photos/graphics must be in compliance with copyright laws.
  • You must have at least one sidebar/quickread on your page.

You will have time to leave during class to work on your stories, if you choose to use your time that way, but keep in mind that laying out a successful page does take time, and you will not have access to your page outside of class.

You will most likely have to do some homework for this project in order to make it successful. (Reporting and writing stories outside of class.)

Your final page will be DUE at the end of the day on Monday, February 27.

Then I went over Creativecommons.org and Public Domain images as places to find photos and art that don’t violate copyright if you are unable to take the picture yourself.

Then I showed you this video I made that shows the basic workflow of InDesign on our computers. The final 10 minutes we got a file saved and started playing around on InDesign.
