We started today with SSR. Then we finished “Searching for summer and then worked on the questions (book questions 1-3, 5, 8-10). After completing those I handed out a dystopia creative writing and drawing assignment which we will work on for the next couple of days.

Today we began with SSR. Next we finished our work with “Searching for Summer” and afterwards I handed out a creative writing/drawing assignment where you will create your own dystopia, draw a picture of it, and write three paragraphs about why the world is so bad on the back. I will give you all class tomorrow to wrap up that assignment.

Today we started with SSR so I could check and see the progress that people were making on their books as we head into the final week before everyone should be ready for book talks.

Afterwards we either began or continued our work with “Searching for Summer.” I hope to conclude our work with that story tomorrow.

Today we began with SSR.

Afterwards we moved on to the pre-reading materials for “Searching for Summer.” The pre-reading activity is to generate a list of everything that we take for granted today. We read the story aloud as a class, stopping to answer the monitor questions. If we didn’t finish the story then we will finish it on Monday. (If you were absent you can read the story on the digital textbook. It begins on page 64.)

Today we began with some work time (30 minutes) so you had a chance to finish the story “The Possibility of Evil.” Following the work time I collected any finished work from the book. Any work not turned in today is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

We then had a discussion about the story and how Miss Strangeworth’s behavior still exists today.

If there was time after that discussion we moved on to a discussion about a utopia contrasted with a dystopia, which will help us prepare to read our next story, “Searching for Summer.”

Today we turned in work from “The Possibility of Evil” and discussed reactions to the story as well as thoughts of how Miss Strangeworth’s type of situation plays out in real life today.

Next we had a discussion about the idea of a utopia vs. a dystopia as we prepare to read our next story “Searching for Summer.” If we finished all of our discussions with time to spare I had you begin working on the pre-reading work associated with the story in the textbook.

Today we started with our final library day of the year. You should be within 1/4 of being finished with your SSR book by this weekend. If you’re not that far you must spend time in these final 10 days finishing that book.

Next we finished working in groups on reading and answering the questions about “The Possibility of Evil.” If you didn’t finish in class you’ll need to use the online textbook or check out a book to take home and complete the questions as homework. I will collect your pre-reading, during reading, and after reading work from this story at the beginning of class tomorrow.
